Highland Bakery - Atlanta, GA
Sometimes, after a big night out, you just need the perfect brunch to bring you back to life. Highland Bakery in Atlanta did the trick for me, and it can help you, too.
Along with a copious amount of delicious coffee, this dish saved me. I got the Cowboy Benedict, which is part of an extensive benedict menu. It’s two cheese quesadillas topped with roasted corn relish, black beans, poached...
Leon's Full Service - Atlanta, GA
On a recent trip to Atlanta, Anoop took some buddies and me to Leon’s for dinner and drinks.
We started in the bar, which has a great feel to it, and some really cool cocktails, such as:
The Wasp, seen here accompanied by my buddy Andrew’s exquisite timepiece. The Wasp is rye whiskey, peach honey, lemon, salt and pepper. These things were killer. The rest of the cocktail menu...
Whole Foods: Faux Hippy Wal-Mart?
Check out this interesting article, in which a former Whole Foods employee lambasts the company’s philosophy and staff treatment. What do you think?
Recipe: Sweet Potato Hash
Here’s a step-by-step picto-recipe (copyright pending) for my new favorite side dish:
1. Peel two medium sweet potatoes, and shred them on the coarsest side of a grater.
2. Roughly chop a half pack of bacon (I used thick cut low sodium), and two shallots, peeled.
3. Start the bacon in a medium pan over medium heat.
4. Once the bacon starts to brown, throw in the shallots.
5....

Rant: Fruit Salad
Fruit salad, in theory, is great.
In reality, fruit salad is usually a few good pieces of fruit you like, and then MELON. Maybe a little canteloupe, but probably mostly honeydew. And, it might be fine if it were delicious, ripe honeydew. But, it’s usually unripe, flavorless styrofoam.
It’s like fruit salad is modeled after a real salad, where there’s green stuff that I...

Review: Empire State South - Atlanta, GA
This past weekend, I was in Atlanta with some buddies and Anoop took us to Empire State South. Empire belongs to chef Hugh Acheson, notable for his appearances on Top Chef: Masters and for being King of the Unibrow.
The restaurant is beautiful inside—it’s Southern and homey.
The menu here is great, because it’s short. Too often, I’m daunted by so many choices that I...
Review: Ted's Bulletin - Washington, DC
Welcome to Ted’s Bulletin, a delightfully art deco eatery in Eastern Market, right on 8th in Washington, DC. I hit Ted’s for brunch this past weekend while visiting friends in DC.
Aesthetically, Ted’s is all about the details, and it’s expertly designed, planned and decorated.
Above is the cocktail menu, with which I was very impressed.
Ted’s is apparently...
Cocktail: Blues Cat
I mixed these up for a few friends yesterday evening for cocktail hour:
See the recipe here: http://gardenandgun.com/newsletter/blueberries-bar
This cocktail is really solid, and utilizes fresh summer ingredients. You’d think the basil would overpower everything, but it really just works to balance the sweet and tart blueberries. The result is a well-balanced summer cocktail.
Drink up,...
